I cleaned the boys out today for the first time since their treatment and
the igloos had hundreds of dead lice in them -well it looked like
hundreds.Hooray!!!I don't know if any of you looked at the link that Pete
posted where Frontline was used and people had lost their rats within three
days. All i can say is that it has worked for my boys but i would also
recommend that the minimal amount is used (one small spray down their backs
and then rubbed in).I would never use more than that - its just not worth
the risk.

This makes me itch just reading about it. Yuck! It also makes me glad that
lice are species specific. Anyways, I'm happy for you that you had such
great results. Good luck keeping the buggers gone for good.

Hi again Pete,
If you could have seen me checking on them all the time for any
reaction, worrying myself sick in case i had harmed them you wouldn't think
me gutsy at all. What i meant in my last post was that it had worked for us
but now i think about it i may well do a bit of hunting around on the net
for alternatives. At the time i needed something done quickly as Shay was
ripping himself apart because of these lice.I did look into Frontline and
like you have heard a lot of people who have used it successfully, and
decided that if used very, very carefully it would be OK.Whether i would use
it again is another story. My big problem at the moment is that we haven't
got an exotic vet at our practice so we are dealing with vets who have very
little interest or knowledge about rats,Our last vet was brilliant and if i
had said that i really did not want to use Frontline he would have searched
high and low for something else to try.You don't come across vets like him
very often and there aren't any other exotic vets in our area.Anyway, thanks
for your good wishes for the boys.

Glad everything is sorted now Sue! Lice are horrible things aren't they -
my vet showed me one under the microscope and it was truely hideous! My
boys had them a couple of years ago and thankfully they haven't had them
again since. The vet gave me a bottle of Aludex to treat them and I had to
bathe the ratties in a diluted solution every week for about four weeks.
The treatment worked, but it was a pain having to keep bathing the boys as
they so hate it and kept looking at me like I was the worst mum in the
world - fell out with me for couple of hours afterwards too!
