Quattro went to the vet this morning in San Antonio, Texas where I was able
to find a great small-rodent vet.

He believes that she is not diabetic (she was negative on the ketostix), but
rather felt a small growth inside Quattro's belly, which could either be an
infection or tumor. It took me a few tries to *convince* him she's never
been around a male mouse. Many symptoms of reproductive disorders can mimic
pregnancy? The eye infections and "rough fur" he has attributed to a
systemic weakness due to the main problem.

We will know for sure in the morning as she is scheduled for surgery at 9am.
She will have the mass removed and probably a hysterectomy. He decided on
this aggressive approach after having poor success rates with antibiotics
handling a problem so big. Her prognosis is good, depending on what is
found during the operation.

I will post the results here tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for your
suggestions.

This morning Quattro had surgery and was found to have a tumor on her ovary
which had spread and grown around her kidney. Due to the size and
invasiveness of the tumor it was decided to not wake her up from the
anesthesia.

Even though mice are very small, they can leave a big void in your heart.

Oh, that's so sad!
We're very sorry for your loss.

A sad end, but at least you tried everything you could. Even if our mouse
"Hester" (who had a similar operation about a month ago, but turned out to
be dead baby mice caused by an infected womb) had died I would have felt that
everything possible had done (although our daughter would have been most
upset.) Quattro was lucky to have an owner who cared so much.

Regards
John

I am so sorry to hear about Quattro. I know it is hard to lose a little
friend no matter how small.

I'm sorry to hear the news. They may be small but is just as sad as losing
any other pet.
