I was wondering if anyone could help me to find information to train my
German Shepard to search for things kinda like SAR. I mean it doesn't have
to be advanced stuff. Just for recreation and to find the family hamster
when she gets out of the cage, or the 4 year old daughter that likes to
wander where she doesn't belong.

Enter your dog in any obedience clubs local tracking classes.

You should never encourage your dog to look for animals if you want it to
find people. Decide if your little girl is more important than your
hamster.
It's REALLY easy to get a dog to critter. It's less easy to keep them from
crittering, when they encounter a critter trail, when you are tracking
humans

Actually, you can make finding your daughter a great game! You start
indoors with your daughter showing the dog a tiny treat, then going to
some other room, and calling the dog.
You tell the dog to "find Susie". She gives treat and praises dog and
you (you did follow the dog closely, didn't you?) praise dog.

Next step: Daughter shows dog treat, goes to another room, does NOT
call; you send the dog to "find Susie".... same routine.

Next step: Daughter speaks to dog, goes away to hide again; you send
dog to "find Susie", same routine.

Now you've got the dog able to find the girl in the house....

Outdoors... Probably in your back yard... BEFORE people have been
walking or playing, like right before breakfast or right after....
Have your daughter hide in the yard (you know where she hides). Bring
the dog out on leash and tell the dog to "find Susie". Hang on! You
may get there faster than you expected! Have her hide in a different
place out there each time for several days.

Now you may need more space. A Church yard, a park, but early in the
day before too many confusing scents have been laid down. Those come
later. She hides, you bring dog out of the car and go find her.

Does she go to visit neighbor kids? Have her go to Billy's house or
Janie's house. Have the dog find her, with you on the leash....

Then you can start aging the trail... 15 minutes, half an hour, an
hour....

Of course, you may have to teach your daughter not to giggle, and to
stay in place until the dog finds her!
