Archived from groups: rec>pets>dogs>health (more info?)

It may take some patience while working with your pooch to get him
used to water sports. Once your buddy gets used to the water you can
do more water activities. Here are tips that will help you to keep
your dog safe while helping him to lose any fear of water he may have.
1. Some beaches don't allow animals on them. When they do there are
rules to follow like clean the mess them makes, keep the animal on a
leash, and don't let them near any other people or dog unless invited
to do so. These rules and regulations can be found online.
2. Dogs are used to the ground and floor being stable and not moving
while it holds them up, boats do not offer this stability. If you take
him with you on a boating trip take your time introducing him to the
boat. If you push him he will be scared and not want to try later
again. Keep in mind that dogs are afraid of the ground moving while
they are standing still. You can take them on car rides to get them
used movement to some extent. Keep in mind boats do not move like cars
though. When you are getting them used to boat rides keep him on a
leash for his safety. You also need to take short boat rides the first
few times. This will help your dog to build confidence....
