I got Isis, my long-haired tabby, in about 2000 at the shelter. She was
about 3 so she is about 10 now. Over the years some things have changed.
Just recently, for instance, she has a new approach to demanding food. Since
dry food seems to be out of vogue with Her Majesty these days I give her
canned. And when the bowl is empty things get ugly around here. Lately she
has started attacking me when the doggone bowl is empty. I means paws AND
claws on my legs as I attempt to walk from A to B. The message is clear.
Fill it up, Mac.

She can get real ornery about this and starts making quite a racket. After I
fill the bowl and she's done licking her chops then we're fine again. We've
worked out a great way for me to use her as a pillow and I get my enjoyment
from that. This whole thing is perfectly typical of the power play dynamic
that has gone on since day one. We can't seem to agree on who is in charge
about what.

You are fortunate that she wants canned food. That is much healthier for
cats than dry food. On the other hand, I won't claim that you are fortunate
that Isis uses "claws on your legs." ;o)

Hi, MaryL.

I think I like Duffy better because she has lots more fur. When I look at a
cat I think of its potential pillow value to me and on that score I think
Duffy has it hands down. But maybe not . . . as we know appearances can be
deceiving with cats!

I always wear jeans in the house so there has been no bloodletting.
Sometimes we do play a little game called "Danger Dan". If Isis is upside
down on the floor I like to tickle her stomach. This takes a lot of courage
on my part.

One general solution to the problem is for you to get another cat. This puts
a totally different perspective on the world for the cat you have now.
(Isis) Competition is good for many things....Even cat personalities.......
