Can someone explain to me about tethering a dog to you to housebreak
them? I sit and type all day and wonder if it would be a boring day for
the dog being tethered to me all day. Also with me trying to work would
it be hard with hims barking, pulling, and feeling like he was always
waiting to go for the walk expected with the lead on? Maybe I am way
off on this one, so I need it explained if possible. He is totally
crate trained, just not house trained.

In my experience with my dog, being where the master is = excitement.
If you've established yourself as his master, you may find that if
he's with you, you won't find him barking or pulling or wanting to
go/be anywhere else.

How old is the dog? What breed?

I'll bet you move around a lot more than you think you do,
and more than the dog would left to his own devices in the
house. Think about stuff like getting up for a cup of
coffee, bathroom breaks, and so on. Also, with the dog
right there you'll be interacting with him more than you
might otherwise.

I've housetrained a bunch of adult dogs and that's one I've
never run into. The dog should learn very quickly that
that's not what's going on (except for when you actually
head for the door).

He is a Doxie and is almost 7 years old. He is perfectly crate
trained, just not house trained. When inside he runs and barks and
chases the cats and is sooooo fast I don't know how he has time to make
an opps. Watchingh him is like watching a tennis match back and forth
and back and fort and he never stops. I have to make him go get a
drink of water as he gets so out of breath I think he will have a
coronary.

You could be right. Maybe I do more around more than I think, but
still he does not want to play with me. He is happier chasing the
cats. He will come for a pat on the head once or twice in about 2
hours, but not much.

He thinks the moment he sees the lead he is going somewhere and will go
immediately and sit by the front door. He will only at that one time
not even look at the cats or offer to chase them. He is looking
directly at me panting and whining to get out the front door.

Thank for all your ideas and suggestions I will try them.
