Survey...male vs female behavior when someone is at the door

I don't think it's a male female thing. My cat is 2 now and when she was a
kitten, she'd hide away where I couldn't see her at all. Now, she comes out
to see who it is. Granted, she's standing a good ways back across my living
room, but she's in direct view. If it's someone she knows, she comes up to
the person and demands petting. If not, she just stays there until I close
the door, that's common if it's a delivery person. But, if it's someone new
that is coming in to stay for a bit, she'll usually stay out in the living
room with us for a while and then come sit on the back of the couch in an
almost protective of me way until she gets used to the person.

I have one of each, both the same age, always lived together, with me.

the male greets people at the door and sniffs, rubs...

the female hides as soon as the doorbell or noises at the door get her
attention.
If people come over to stay awhile, it takes her ages to come out, unless
she recognises the voice, in which case she will come out after 10 or 15
minutes.

We have a two year old house cat, and when the front door goes, she growls,
and then hides but when they come in she then comes out to see who it is.

When she first growled we didnt know what on earth the noise was, we are
used to it now...

open runs under the bed and stays there.

He'll usually stay there until the company leaves.

My 18 year old calico on the other hand will go and
greet them at the door.

My 11 year old cat immediately runs to the front door whenever she hears a
knock at the door or the bell ring. She probably thinks it's someone
delivering food for her.
