What type of substrate is good for my kingsnake? When I first got my
newborn kingsnake I used Astro-turf and just recently I used some sort of
Crushed walnut shell stuff from, I think it was RPT or zoo med. Anyone have
any other ideas or info. I have read a lot of web pages that said that sand
can cause problems under the scales. But when I was younger we had a Gopher
Snake and my parents told me that they just used Sandbox Sand, and from
what I can recall, The snake never had any problem with it or eating in the
same tank as that sand. >> Stay informed about: Substrate |

I wouldn't use crushed walnuts, still have very sharp edges. Can be fatal if
swallowed. paper towels are always good. I use a product made from recycled
paper for my cornsnakes and newspaper for my Boa. >> Stay informed about: Substrate |

Do you feed your King snake in it's cage? If the snakes ingest some of the
walnut shells with it's food it can do serious internal damage. Anything is
better then ground up walnuts they still have sharp edges. wood chips,
paper, shredded coconut. i use the recycled paper and i take the snake out
of the cage to feed them. >> Stay informed about: Substrate |

I take my snake out and put him in a box ware I feed him and then weight 3
minutes and cover his head with a cloth and then pick him up and put him
back in the cage.
I dont know if he is telling me he likes it or not but the other day I saw
my kingsnake with half his body under the sand and the 3 inches from the
head looking out.
