I have a 3 1/2 year old part Albino/Blue Merle Australian Sheppard mix.
He's a large guy almost 80 pounds. When I have him outside in the
warm weather, his paws get "burned" from walking on the pavement or
asphalt, which is almost impossible to avoid living in the city. The
day after his injuries he has to be coaxed out of the house and refuses
to go on any walks. When he is inside he spends hours licking his
paws. I took him to the vet but they said he would likely grow out of
it but I doubt that. I did see an ad for something called Thera-Paws
which are small booties that are for dogs. Does anyone know about this
condition? I feel bad for the little guy. He loves to be outside but
I'm afraid this will be an ongoing problem.

Rescue dogs also utilize "booties" to protect their feet from sharps and
contamination. If you don't want to go that route, then I would suggest
shorter outtings if all you can offer is pavement or asphalt. Longer
outtings can be had in a park or other green space.
