I have got me 3rd cat which is a lovely natured silver tabby (Max Baer)
but due to his previous owner he shits in the bath. The guy who had
him before would not get him any litter. In fact he did not get rid of
his fleas nor did he worm him properly.

I got it all taken care of and have had him castratrated and he is due
for his second vaccinations and microchip. I put a litter tray in the
bath and one on the floor which he uses but he still shits in the bath.

Is it too late to stop him now ? Maybe he will go outside at a later
time, he has never been outdoors before but he sits by the front door.

He is the most beutiful cat I have ever seen in my life, the vet said
there is a risk that he could be stolen. Are silver tabbies rare ?

1. Get a litterbox and put it outside the bathroom door.
2. Keep the bathroom door closed.

He will get the message......

Many thanks for the advice I will try this. I will have to have
confidence in him not going on the floor. I don't see why he should
though. :-)

If he *does* go on the floor, then you might start with the litterbox in the
bathtub, wait until he uses it once or twice and then move the litter box to
the bathroom floor just out of the bathtub. This is the important step. If
he then uses the litterbox even five inches outside the bathtub, you can
start moving it a few feet at a time until it's out of the bathroom and then
migrate it to its final resting destination.

(Just don't walk blindly in the night into the bathroom and trip over or
step in the damned thing) :)

I'd be putting the plug in the bath, adding an inch of water, and go
with the idea of the little box outside the tub.

You can get clean fill dirt or the natural cat litter to use. They also
make a cat litter that is designed to attract the furballs

You could also use something like puppy pads to get him used to a certain
area than as the OP's stated gradually move him to where you want him to be

No not that rare but definitely beautiful cats

The pervious owner obvious abused the animal you may want to talk to your
vet about a behavioral specialist.

I don't think he tried to abuse him willfully. He is a kind natured
guy but is an alcholic and would not buy any litter and only low cost
flea and worm treatment.

He had the cat left with him by his daughter and I could see the cat
would be better off out of there so I suggested I take him and he
agreed. It is a lovely cat though and very good natured.
