I need some serious help, my senegal Tengu, who is two years old, used to be sweet as can be, and now I can't hold him.
I have tried to read up on parrot behavior, to read body language, but he lashes out for no reason. One second we'll be cuddling, the next three of my fingers are bruised and bloody. When he bites, he attack viciously and always draws blood within moments, and after he's bit me once, he'll move on to the next finger. It's horrifically painful, and often I manage to just barely avoid flinging him across the room.
I know he's a sweet bird, because for a year he was well socialized with everyone and never bit. Now he screams constantly at everyone and I can't safely pick him up without the classic "ha, you put your hand right where I wanted it" response. He'll trick me by doing a regurgitation head bob dance and really he was just suckering me in. I'm so frustrated, and I don't know what to do. Putting him up just incurs more biting on the way over to the cage, and putting him down angers him too. All I can seem to do is scrape him off on the bed and then I'm the one keeping away from /him/! Or else I can scare him into his cage with a glove or towel. I really want to turn this around. Please, if anyone has some advice, I'd really appreciate it. I don't want to give up on him, I really love him, I just can't stand being terrified of my own pet.
