Archived from groups: rec>pets>dogs>behavior (more info?)

When I was out walking my dogs on Sunday afternoon, I met up with the
neighbor at the far end of our road, the one who we were told owns the husky
that could be the pups sire. We talked, and he said yes, his dog is a
Siberian Husky. That he has bred a number of litters of Siberian Huskies.
The male dog he has now isn't neutered, and is one from a litter he bred
with some wolf in it, for a particular customer who wanted that. That's how
he described it to me. Since I know nothing about breeding or hybrids,
etc., I merely listened. He did describe his previous litters to me
though, remarking that they included some all black pups, some all white
pups, some that were a bit reddish in color. I told him how much that
sounded like Kali's puppies. The same sort of mixture of colors. So it
*appears* we have most likely located the puppies *father*. Time wise, Kali
had to have gotten pregnant while on this road. She was here for about a
week prior to being taken in. The timeline works out that it was during
that time, while other neighbors were feeding her, giving her water, and she
was observed by many here, that she would have met her mate, so to speak.

Well we've definitely taken her 'off the streets'. ;-)

We are amazed at how much she's grown. When she first arrived, she looked
like a rather small dog. Granted, she was very much underweight. Her bones
stuck out. IIRC, when the housecall vet came in Sept., she weighed
somewhere around 35 pounds. We fed her and fed her, but she never seemed
to gain much weight. Of course we didn't know she was pregnant at the time.
Since she's had the pups and finished nursing, she's growing like a weed.
She's over 50 pounds now and still growing. We had to stop giving her the
heartworm pills for under 50 pounds and switch her over to the ones
purchased for Whisky and Monte, and save the smaller ones for Pinga. Her
whole stature is different now. She's as tall as Monte, something we
couldn't tell before. She just seemed like a little skinny dog.
