A little background first.
My mother-in-law lives in country and people seem to think her farm is
dumping ground for cats. She takes them all in and gets them fixed
and finds home for what she can not keep.
She recently had central air put in (2 days ago) and the guy did not
seem to like cats according to her. The first day one of the "wild"
ones that she was working with to find a good permant home
dissappeared when the worker supposedly let it out and we have not
seen it in.
The second day, when he left, one of her "permanent" cats that she has
had a while was laying in the basement dead and it looked like it had
been stomped to death. It was a real friendly cat and liked
attention. We figure it may have been bothering the guy and he got
mad and did it in. The cat was about 8 - 9 years old and loved
attention. It was a stray she took in also years ago.
We took pics of the way we found it and she is taking it to the vets
this AM to have it checked to she what it died of and if it is foul
play some one will play for it. The vets say if it shows it was
intentionally killed that in Michigan it is felony animal abuse.
Please send prayers and purrs for the furbabies as well as my
mother-in-law. She was so upset that and crying and nothing we could
do about it yet. Last summer she lost her two oririginal ones that
they had when her husband was alive (Old age) and now two more because
someone did not like cats!!

Purrs and prayers coming. If the A/C guy is responsible, I hope he pays
for his actions.

We are all puurrrrin fur dat kitties involved. Yes, it's worse than
terrible. The law must be invovled, we duzn't like revenge because
that's not justise, but clearly we has to make sure this person duzn't
do it again, absolutely! (asumin it turns out that he did, but it looks
pretty certain).

We took the dead cat to the vet and the vet done whatever they do and
she said that it looked like the cat had been frozen and where the
cat's body was found laying on the basement floor it was wet looking
like the cat had thawed out. The thing is that the vet said there was
not enough evidence to sustain a charge against the person.
As said the cat was real friendly and liked to rub against people to
get petted. The vet figured the person MAY have put it in a large
chest type freezer that is next to the furnace they were working on
and the shock and cold killed the cat. When the cat's body was found
it was but like 3 feet from furnace but yet workers claim they did not
see it there.
I will give the furnace company credit though. The owner did come out
and bring the workers who were there to try to make things as right as
possible.
He listened to what the vet said and the workers side and in the end
said that the workers would be punished by him if not the law even
though they denied everything - even seeing a cat.
The company's name is G & W Heating of Saginaw, Michigan just in case
anyone here is from the area.

I figured it would be hard to bring a case against anyone but I am really
glad to know that the owner is going to do the right thing.
It's hard for me to read these. It's just too upsetting.
