I'm in the market for a new filter for my fancy goldfish tank... It's a 33
gallon tank, and I do plan to upgrade to a 100 gallon tank in December (so I
want a filter that I can swap-out).

I am currently running an Eclipse 3 (Marineland) filter system, and it's not
doing a great job. The water is always littered with small particles.

I have heard the Marineland HOT Magnum or the regular Magnum filters are the
best. Is this true?

The local FS has a refurbished Magnum 350 Pro on sale for 50% off ($120
Canadian, or about $95 US). It's a reputable store, and they say they have
never been used but were previously missing parts.

Thanks for any help!

Marinelands work just fine for most applications. You are just overloading
the 3; not up to the task of mechanical filtration, with out an every other
day rinse of the cartridge. Keep your 3 and add a 350 or other brand
canister for the main mechanical/chemical filtration. You can't beat the
biowheel for bio filtration. Do keep a prefilter (cartridge) in the 3 to
keep junk off the 'wheel.

I prefer the Emporer 400s. I bought them online for $36.99 each. I have 2 on
my 75 gallon. They are great filters...
