Plants for aquariums

I have several goldfish tanks and try to keep some live plants--mostly
anacharis--in them. Trouble is the fish treat the anacharis like candy and
gobble up the leaves (if that's what you call them) in no time at all. I'm
left with stubby stems!

I have a currently unused 10 gallon tank and I was thinking of trying to
propagate my own anacharis. In the summer I steal it from my outdoor pond
but that source will be gone soon. Can I take the partially eaten stems and
bundle them like pet stores do and grow them in my tank? Do they need any
special nutrients? I know they use nitrates from the fish in the tanks but
I wasn't planning to put any fish in these tanks.

I'd suggest when you do a water change, move some of the old water into the
planted tank. Taking the fish pooh and dumping it in will help too. Other than
that get some plant feeder.
