Should ownership be outlawed for their safety?

I am not a pro or anything but I watch alot of animal cops and such on
Animal Planet and it seems that Pitt Bulls are the number one problem
because they are bread to fight. Often times when the animal is confiscated
it is later put to sleep because it exhibits nothing but violence. Also used
by drug dealers and criminals. Uusually the puppies are put up for adoption
because they are not yet trained in fighting.

I wonder if it would be better to outlaw them and only allow very few people
to be licensed to have them? I know some major cities are already outlawing
the ownership of Pitt Bulls...
