A bad day at Petco - Right after Xmas, I bought a 5.5 gallon aquarium from a local Petco store to use as a split tank for 2 bettas. I took it home, filled it within a inch or so of the top, and let it sit. No leaks. So I got out the silicone and the styrene and the..

A REAL shock at PETCO - I swear this never happens. So a couple of weeks ago I walk into PetCo and find they they have stopped selling their bettas in the hideously small 6 oz cups and have switched them to more 3 oz cups (about the size of the smallest baby food..

Our new Petco was a bit of a dissapointment. The aquarium supplies were
excellent but the number of tanks was not large and the selection of fish
small. I did get 5 really nice black neons, that was all.

Our local one is about the same, definitely less than PetsMart has for
all fish and supplies.

In my area PetsMart still has the biggest and best selection of fish
followed by PetSupermarket. The Petco in Nashville has a much larger fish
dept. but it's a long drive and the PH is drastically different than I have
here. Acclimation to my water takes too long and the losses are always high
so I don't go there anymore.

Much as I hate to sound preachy...
Support your local fish shop instead. Can usually find better stuff,
similarly priced, and will be supporting a local business in doing so.

These are all local stores. My country is bursting with new shopping plazas
and Malls. We have a new Petco, and a new PetsMart is opening around the
holidays. We already have a PetSupermarket and an older PetsMart I shop all
the time. :-)

As for mom and pop shops, we only have one good one and it's quite a drive.
They're more expensive on everything and don't guarantee the fish so I
seldom buy more than aquarium plants there.

Hey there RM.

What tank did you add the 5 Black Neons too?

The same 55g tank. I also picked up 3 gold tetras at PS (PetSupermarket)
and they're a bit of a problem. They're aggressive and harassing the 5
peaceful Sherpa tetras. :-( In the store I watched them for awhile and
they didn't bother the other fish in the tank. Within a few hours of adding
them they were harassing the Sherpas.
