A bad day at Petco - Right after Xmas, I bought a 5.5 gallon aquarium from a local Petco store to use as a split tank for 2 bettas. I took it home, filled it within a inch or so of the top, and let it sit. No leaks. So I got out the silicone and the styrene and the..

Hiya fishy folks.
We had a new PetCo open up in town.
It's a very large one, and they have much more stuff than the other
ones in surrounding towns.
I saw a gorgeous male Delta tail Betta and he was labeled under the
normal Betta prices.
I snatched him up, grabbed some frozen bloodworms (Hikari, yummy!), and
my daughter picked up a glass bobble fish...well really it's an
octopus.
They had so many other plant choices, supplies, goodies, etc., that
I'm lucky I left with only buying what we did.
I was actually looking for a new Bristle nose Pleco. The one I had
just up and died and boy what a difference with the algae.
He / she sure did a great job.
All they had were common plecos and Chinese algae eaters. = (
I guess I'm scrubbing algae a little longer.

ALRIGHT!!! :-))) A new petshop plus a deal on a betta. It doesn't get
better than that. Is their fish area one of those round things where you
walk around a central core looking at the fish? The supply racks stick out
from this core like spokes in a wheel at our new Petco. The older store in
Nashville has a much better and larger aquarium area against one wall, plus
a better traffic flow through the fish area.

Since I returned my common pleco my tank is being again overrun with algae.
And I have several otos in it along with two clown plecos and a rubberlip
pleco. These little guys just aren't doing the job.

This new PetCo has a round pattern. I didn't care for that, as there's
not that many tanks now, and one section is marine.
I think they should have left out the marine tanks and used those for
fresh too.
There's not enough room to try and do both well...only the basic fish
selections.
I prefer the bristle (or bushy depending on location) nose Plecos to
either Otos or Rubber Lipped Plecos.
For me, they've done a much better job at keeping the algae under
control.
I am looking for one still.
I have to check one of the nearby shops. I knw one of them has a few,
but I prefer a different shop to give my business to.
The owner of the local shop is the father of one of my son's friends.
>From what I have heard over several years about him, then to find out
he's the owner....I don't do much business there anymore.
The guys a real jerk to some of his children and fancies others to the
extreme.
No parent should ever do that to their children.
There's years worth of negative history about this guy and everytime I
went there I couldn't help think about what I knew about him. Now he
didn't know I was the mom of his daughter's best friend, or that I was
the parent who drove his child around because he was too lazy, and on
and on.
Too many skeletons hanging around there in the background for me, if
you know what I mean.
