I have been giving my girls about 3 to 4 peanuts per mouse a day as
treats. Is this too many peanuts?

probably a bit much, yes. mice are like people, they shouldn't eat too much
fat - I assume the peanuts you are talking about have vegetable oil on them?.
try one peanut a day or so, as a treat.

A bit fatty..peanuts have a large amount of oil in them (as do most nuts).
I dont give my mice peanuts at all, except when they're already in a
prepared bag of mixed food (hamster, gerbil mixes etc), even then if there's
too high a percentage of nuts in it, i wont buy it as thy're notorious for
causing allergies and other skin conditions, pus the obvious risks of
obesity which then brings about other serious illnesses.

Try just giving them two peanuts each, but only one day a week, I know it's
cutting down from 28 nuts to just two but they will be better off in the
longer term.

I don't give my mice much peanuts. They eat mostly millet. My mice used to
eat Hamster mix but when my mice were eating the hamster mix, they would
eat all the fatty bits .e.g. peanuts, sunflower, seeds. So I changed their
diet to Rat food and I think it is better for my mice.

I leave the food bowl in there until they've eaten everything, usually two
days !
As with any animal, they'll take their favourites first and usually they
arent the best thing for their health.
Mine do get a few nuts and sunflower seeds which are in the wild bird food i
buy for them, but they are so diluted by the oats, millet and cornflakes
that i mix into their food, that it means that they'll probably only get one
or two nuts each and mabe two or three sunflower seeds per day.
A normal mix, which lasts them for a long time will be:
1lb wild bird food
1lb millet seed
1lb porridge oats
1 packet of ASDA cornflakes (with added vitamins!)
to this, i add a teaspoon of cod liver oil for their coats (it's best to add
it to the millet before mixing it into everything else)
Along with their regular food, they get apples, carrots, dandelion leaves
and fresh grass (greens only once per week, otherwise they get the runs)

Thanks for the advice. I will cut down on the peanuts I give them.
