I posted this in the wrong place earlier.... but, now he's at the Bridge
waiting.
########
Nigel needs some vibes, too, please.
With a snotty nose, runny eyes and drooling, off to the vet we went this
morning. Seems a wound on his lip, which I thought had healed (exterior
wound had closed and healed nicely), has become an abcess in his mouth. So,
he's staying in hospital for the day for oral surgery, and if the infection
is localized he'll have his clusters snatched.
With all the other fuzzies in my house, I don't understand why it's the
rabbits that have so many problems. Whatever the reason, they are my babies
and will get the care they deserve and need. I'm thinking the veterinary
hospital should name their next architectural addition for my zoo ;)
Julia
Dinks (who beats up on Nigel), Randy, Nigel, Ashes, Snowbelle, and MommaSon
########
Shortly after Dr. Stewart began Nigel's surgery, he called me. The abcess
was so invasive that to remove it would mean removing the top of Nigel's
mouth. I didn't want to subject Nigel to the pain after the surgery and the
discomfort of force feeding, with the possiblity of the infection returning.
And, for the first time, my vet said that if it were his bunny, he would
consider putting him down. I elected to have Nigel put to sleep before he
woke.
I feel so guilty. This morning I took Nigel to the vet, expecting to bring
him home this afternoon for post operative care. He jumped from the exam
table into my arms when it was time to go with the vet... he didn't want to
go. Now he's gone to the bridge and I have his body. I didn't even get to
say goodbye.
Nigel was one of four buns the cats brought in a year ago. He survived a
bad case of Pasturella, and had become a cuddle bun, running and jumping in
my lap whenever Dinks made a move in his direction. I miss you already,
Nigel!

I felt the same way with Munchkin a couple weeks ago. I thought I'd be
back to take her home, but it was her time. Best wishes, and I hope
you're able to see him across the bridge.

You have my heartfelt condolences. But please don't feel guilty.
When it's so sudden, there's nothing that can be done (my first bunny,
Jar-Jar died at the vet's when she was 6 months old and like you, I
didn't get to say goodbye). You did the best you could for him, and
I've no doubt that he'll know that, whilst he's munching tender grass
at the Bridge.
Bunny hugs

Julia, please leave his clusters in place until he is well. The
hormones will help his immune system. The stress of being neutered
will harm it. He needs all the immune response he can muster right
now.
I hope someone with more experience will talk about bicillin. All my
hopes are fixed on Nigel getting through this. Get well, little buddy.

I'm sorry. I misunderstood. Julia, I thought he was deathly ill, but
still on this side.
Poor baby Nigel. I know that he has a special place waiting for him on
the other side and that he'll be as loved as he was here.
Play peacefully, little Nigel.

We are very sorry to hear that Nigel had to leave so early for the bridge.
A candle is lit for his trip. It was so sad that you couldn't say goodbye
while he was conscious, but the fact that you rescued him and had a little
over a year will be always what was better than he had. Carla and Claire. >> Stay informed about: Nigel at the Bridge |

I am very saddened to read that Nigel had to cross the Bridge so suddenly.
My heartfelt condolences to you. I am sure that he is playing with all his
bunny friends and that his mouth is no longer bothering him.
Take care,

Julia, I am very sorry you had to let Nigel go. I'm sure it was a
hard choice. Sending vibes for Nigel that he has a smooth passage to
the bridge.

I'm so sorry Julia. Please don't feel guilty. Nigel knows now it was you who
freed him from the earthly body causing him so much pain and discomfort. I'm
sure he'll be 'round to see you in a dream and you can have your goodbyes
then. Sometimes doing the right thing can still hurt awfully bad...
