This little guy is going to put me in the grave! Woke up this morning
to find him in respiratory distress; breathing was labored and not
sounding very good, and he was making this little wimpering sound. He
looked so pathetic. :( He sounded like someone with a bad chest cold.
I totally fell to pieces and called my husband, sobbing that I didn't
think Mocha was going to make it, and I had called the vets office and
told them that Mocha was in some sort of respiratory distress and was
on my way into the office for Dr. Nichols to see-this WAS an
emergency. We saw him as soon as we got there, and, wouldn't you know
it, Mocha's breathing wasn't as bad as it was 1/2 hour prior. He said
Mocha's lungs didn't sound too bad. (I wish he could have heard him
while at home). Anyway, he took him into the back gave him Sub-Q
fluids and put him on a nebulizer for 1/2 hour with some meds. Seems
to be breathing much better. I have to go out and buy a vaporizer and
do this once a day.
He thinks the dry air of the air conditioning on 24/7 and the
remodeling work going on in the house might have contributed to this.
Hopefully the work will be totally done this afternoon and I can wash
the air filter (do that weekly anyway) and then wipe off the rest of
the dust around here.
He also has lost MORE weight, he is now 1.50 pounds. His appetite
is great right now, will only eat soft foods (Critical Care w/baby
squash). Doc says give him all he can eat! Doing all the meds and
Systemajuv too.
PLEASE keep those prayers coming--he's still a VERY sick little guy.

Sorry to hear you had such a scare with Mocha today. I have been through
respiratory distress many times with Jasmine and by the time I get her to
the vet she is always breathing better than she was at home.

Remodeling work hurts me, and I'm larger than little Mocha.
If I might suggest, if you haven't already, try changing
the air filter.

Rhonda...OMG do I understand what you must have felt...! I'm sorry Mocha is
feeling so bad...did the vet ever give you a complete and clear diagnosis as
to what Mocha's problem is? Is it Pasteurella?
Hang in there...Rhonda...you are not alone :)
I have one question though...it worries me a bit that he is eating(critical
care and squash baby food...which is all very good and nutritious) but
losing weight....did they do a coproculture on his stool? He might have an
intestinal infection (plus whatever is causing the respiratory distress)and
that might be causing the weight loss...:(
I don't know....just few thoughts...I wish I could help more....:(
Take care,
Shan
PS: as an appetite stimulant(when Pepe was sick) the vet gave me a med
called "Torbugesic" it's a narcotic well known fro this purpose....

Shan, he's on the Turbugesic. He did say that maybe blood workup
might be in order. Doc hasn't done a coproculture, what's that?

Rhonda, it is funny how they seem to be able to mask their illness once they
see the vet, isn't it ? I know for me with my asthma the construction work
agravates my condition greately. Maybe this is why Mocha felt better at the vet
than at home. Maybe some supervised outings in the yard would help him. (mega
healing vibes) still coming. Janice >> Stay informed about: Mocha Update-Scare |

I'm glad`Mocha`is taking the Torbugesic...it usually helps alot....
A coprocoltura is a bacteriological examination of the faeces....a
little more than a usual "test" done on the faeces....
Maybe the vet has already done that....I don't know...:(
How is he feeling now? Still not eating...how about his respiratory
problems?
I wish you good luck...
Please, keep us posted..:)
