We will be getting our first ferret soon, so I have many questions.
Here are two:

1. I have some mice during the winter. Are ferrets good mousers?

2. I use an ultrasonic mouse deterrant. Will these have a detramental
effect on ferrets?

Turn off the ultrasound and turn on the ferret. If you give them the run of
the house, the mice will be history. Of course, you house will have to be
ferretproofed, but that's to be expected. - CW

Yes. Wild ferrets eat nothing but rodents.

Yes, probably more than their questionable affect on mice.

Get live mouse traps, which really work. Take the mice far out in the woods and let them
go.

This question was addressed quite awhile back because I have the ultrasound
mouser deterrants myself. They don't have any affect on my ferrets and I've
had the ultasound before the ferrets moved in. Of course, I don't think it
has any affect on the mice either. Every fall they start moving back in and
this year was no different. I found my cat playing with a dead one in the
living room, where the ferrets were playing and they had no interest at all
in the mouse. The same cat sits in front of my kitchen sink, just
listening to sounds I imagine under the cupboards and the ferrets have the
run of the kitchen but have never come up with a mouse yet. I have ferret
proofed the cupboards since they were getting under them and running the
whole length of them and I couldn't get them out. I'm guessing that the
mice are getting in there and I would have thought that the ferrets would
have made them go elsewhere but I thought that with the cats too. Stupid
me... So in answer to your questions Alex, I think it depends on your
ferret. Enjoy him and get him a playmate soon!

I would advise AGAINST allowing your ferret to eat wild mice. They usually
contain parasites, disease and may already have rodent poison within their
system. Not to mention they could be rabid.
This is a BAD IDEA on so many levels!
If you wish to feed live, buy the white mice from a licensed pet
establishment and SUPERVISE your fuzzy during this activity.

Sorry to disagree. Although I don't have mice, if I lived out in the
country and had mice in my house or trailer, I'd definitely let my ferrets
clean em out for me. Field mice pose a threat to humans with their Hanta
virus. The British royals for a long time kept ferrets in their palaces
for the express purpose of controlling the mouse problem. - CW
