Good day Everyone
My Girlfriends Service dog, a golden retriever (8 Yrs old) fell ill today.
She refused to eat anything. At about 11 she started haveing Dioreah and
started vomitting. She Dioreah was standard, nothing in it and the vomit was
clear. When I dropped her off at home I noticed that the dogs Dioreah
contained blood. The dog is tired, not doing much but concious. She has not
eaten in the last 24 hours but has drunk large quantites of water. Tomorrow
morning when the vet opens we will be first in que. The dog has a history of
picking up bones and food from the ground and eating it.
Any advice will be greatly appriciated
Thank you
Marc Arndt

As the dog is a Service Dog, I would suggest trying to find a vet that will
see her now.

Good day
Unofrtunantly it is 10:47 pm here, and no 24 Hour vet service. The dog has
just decided to climb onto my girlfriends bed and sleep there (her usual
spot). She doesnt appear to be in any pain, only tired and weak. Just
wondering what it is? Worms?
Thanks
Marc

might just be an upset stomach, much as a person might get when their
digestive system gets a bit out of kilter. water drinking is good, to
prevent dehydration...

This could be anything, and it does sound serious. Get her in ASAP to a vet. I
would not try to coax her to eat anything until checked. Fluids only, water and
maybe some broth. Let us know how she does.

we saw similar symptoms when my dog had intestinal parasites (guiardia and
cryptosporidium). they are easily treated, but as you know, dehydration is
potentially a serious problem, so i'd get her to the vet first thing for
asessment. it will be easier on the dog if you bring a fresh stool sample
with you.

Uh-oh. This *is* a medical emergency.

With the history you've described, I would suspect she's
dealing with the consequences of eating something bad--
intestinal obstruction, intestinal or stomach perforation,
or poisoning.
Please keep us posted, OK? Fingers are crossed.
