Maspeth, Queens, NY...

Hello Folks,

I just found this group and wanted to let you all know that although I
am not involved in flying pigeons, I happen to live in a town where it
is very popular. Maspeth, Queens of NYC has a long history of flying
pigeons. There is a club or group that I used to see meeting under the
Long Island Expressway underpass at 74th Street. I have not seen them
in a while. Although I love birds and watching the pigeons respond to
the direction of there handlers, i am n ot a member or involved in any
way. I am an admirer. There are two bird stores on Grand Ave. in
Maspeth that cater to the folks who keep these birds. The owners are
two fine gentlemen.

My family originally comes from North 9th St. in Brooklyn. My father
and his brothers used to fly the birds. I can recall many stories that
he had told me when I was a young boy about this hobby. There is not a
day that goes by in Maspeth that I do not see pigeons being flown by
there handlers. it is an amazing site and probably a fascinating hobby.
