How about checking the attitude at the door. The person typed what the
situation is. Right or wrong, the bird is already there. Advise has been
solicited, so give it if you have any, or don't answer.

Answer to the poster: There are some very good books, so get a couple, and
start reading. Basically, threat with love, understanding, reward good
behavior, forgive the bad, feed a varied diet, but get a list of banned
foods, such as soda, coffee, tea, avocado, and more. do some research, get
up to speed quickly, and welcome to a new lifestyle. Good luck.

The old bat gave advice (notice the "c"). The advice ("c" again) is that it
is best to educate yourself before you buy an animal. This is great advice
("c") for everyone. To advise someone otherwise or to dismiss this advice
all together would be foolish.

Post subject: Wild Parrot, how to capture? [Login to view extended thread Info.]
Archived from groups: alt>pets>parrots>amazons, others (more info?)

Hello Folks,

Just in the last few days I've noticed some type of Parrot hanging out
in my back yard. Obvously it has escaped from it's owner since we don't
have many green and red birds here in Kansas.

I don't think this guy will last past the fall, since we will be having
frosts here in a few months, and definately not through the winter.

So the question of the day is, how should I go about getting this fellow
into a nice warm cage?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-mac

Try setting out some cage dishes with
(1) water
(2) a parrot seed mix
(3) a parrot pellet mix
and (4) some pieces of fruit

to see, first, what the bird is interested in.

Obviously, the bird has found _some_ source of nourishment for itself
already but may miss some others enough to partake of your banquet.

Once the bird shows an interest in one or more of your offerings, remove
the others and continue setting its favorite(s) [and some water] out for
it.

After a week or two, place the dishes in an open cage and watch to see if
the bird is willing to go in after them. If so, you'll be able to simply
close the door.

If cold/inclement weather hits, cover the top and the upwind side of the
cage, leaving the front and the other two sides uncovered. (It's a good
idea to make the back of the cage the upwind side.

Good Luck!
