I am new to this and need some help. I have a 7 month old male kitten. He is beautiful and affectionate. When he gets in my lap and does that "kneading" thing that cats do, his claws are partially out and it HURTS. Is this normal? Is there a way I can make him stop? TIA for any help
« Yes, your kitten's kneading behavior is quite normal. You might want to try clipping his claws so that they aren't so sharp, and his kneading doesn't hurt as much. If you don't know how to clip .. »
« Thanks, I knew the kneading was normal. It's the claw thing that had me baffled. I will get the vet to show me how to clip them. »
« You don't want him to stop; he's expressing his love and trust. You want to encourage that. What you need to do is clip his claws. You can buy a clipper at a pet supply store, or you can just use a .. »
« Agree! I find the small clippers designed specifically for cat claws are the easiest to use on cats. When you are first starting out trimming claws, just do one (maybe two) at a time the first da.. »

Just got a 3 mo old male kitten/cat. Clean bill of health from vet. At feeding time he'll eat some of his food and then paw all around the food dish like he's trying to bury his business. He'll walk away and return a short time later, finish his food and paw again. No appetite problems, no litter ..
« I take it you mean when he paws at it it is liek he is trying to bury it. If so that is a natural thing cats do »
« It's perfectly normal. He's trying to bury his food so no one will steal it. He may even continue the behavior when he's older. In fact, my cat Sara would sometimes pull a newspaper off a nearby c.. »

I have two young foster kittens who came in separately. The one was 3 wks old when he was left at our vets office. He was flea infested and quite underweight. He's a very active kitten now but is still small for his age. The other kitten was found outside by herself. She was in pretty good shap..

« I've mixed kittens in the past and found that the best thing to do is let them go at it. As long as they're not doing damage to each other that is. They have a number of things to settle between eac.. »

« What is his history? Did Carrie have him when he was born, or was he found with a stray mom, that sort of thing? I wonder if something happened early to make him distrust people? »

We're looking after a young mother with a litter of 7. They're currently about 5 weeks old and doing well except the runt who looks like he's two weeks old and we bottle feed. (for those who are wondering, the runt's been to a vet and is on antibiotics). The litter is nested in a basement bedroom ..
« It is my understanding that in the wild, the mother moves her kittens often to avoid predators. So, I assume it is instinct. MLB »

I am a first time owner of a kitten (almost 12 weeks old). She has been sleeping all day after receiving her shots. Is this normal behavior and should I expect this in the future? Thanks in advance.
« Pretty much, she's probably feeling a bit rough. Remember shots are really weak versions of the full disease they are protecting your kitty from so the kit will not be 100% until her body builds u.. »
« I would say yes, definitely. Whenever Taz gets his, he's real sluggish and just... umph. He can't be bothered... and he wants to be left alone. It's nothing to worry about. :o) »

« Our kittens were down for about a day afterwards. I felt so sorry for them. The shot that has the distemper and URI virus stuff can cause them to have a fever for a day or so. Rhonda Matthew wrote: »
