I question the assumption that whales are relatively dumb, I don't know if
that is true. In any case intelligence is the not only criterion, species
are protected for other reasons, the most obvious one being to protect their
numbers in nature. >> Stay informed about: Iceland Murders Its First Endangered Whale |

Because humans normally don't eat other human beings, and because he
apparently hasn't done anything to make other humans believe him to be
an accute threat to their own life.
Humans shoot humans. Not for food though. But quite a few of us eat
pigs, who are pretty smart animals. Some of us eat dogs. Some eat
chicken. Some eat moose. Cow. Snake. Ants. Sheep. Horse. Antelope. Tuna.
Salmon. Seal. Whale. And quite a few other animals.
Humans have been killing and eating animals for at least 30 000 years -
just look at the cavemen drawings.
But if it makes you happy, feel free to keep pretending, where you are
sitting, probably dressed in clothes, on a chair in front of a computer,
using electricity, inside a building that protects you from the
elements, that eating meat is "unnatural" for humans.
In the meantime, I think I'll go enjoy a nice steak dinner.
