Does anybody else have a lab that has a baying bark? we were told Holly is
full-bred and she did come with papers but her bark sounds very
hound-like....most amusing when she's barking at nothing at all but not the
deep 'woof' type bark I am used to with labs...thoughts?

Ah yes.... Atty does this. We tease her that she's more beagle than lab.

Caitlin has a hound-like bark when she's suspicious of strange sounds in
the night. It's almost like an announcement bark to the other dogs on the
block to see what's going on. Until recently, her voice would break like an
adolescent boy's, which didn't sound too threatening to a potential
intruder.

My Max does this too. Sounds like a bloodhound at times. He
also does the big booming woof too. The former is used e.g. to
signal that he's heard someone at the door. The later is a
"I don't know what the hell that plastic bin liner is, but it's
not scaring me, I'm standing my ground" - a standoff kind of a bark.

'
I think that's almost exactly what Holly does...she does that baying bark as
a' sort of "raise the alert" what the heck is that sound/person/thing type
bark. Of course, we have Charlie for the deep 'go away' bark, so...Holly
also has that break in her bark. It's pretty cute, now that you mention
it....mostly just silliness, and boy I am glad she doesnt do it at night! It
would probably scare the wits out of me!

Thanks, all, for sharing!
