Hi,
I have a 13 year old Siberian Husky who has neurological mylopathy, the
nerves from the spine to his hind legs are atrophying causing him walking
and control problems. We were giving him Rimaydl (6 mo.) , this drug was
definitely working, but now (last 3 days) he is throwing up and has constant
diarrhea. Maybe this is liver related since Rimadyl is known to cause liver
problems. If I take him off the med he's going to have problems walking. Do
you guys think he is too old for a wheelchair. We've had him (Wong) since he
was 5 mos. old. Until now he was happy, eating normally and enjoying
company. The vet will see us in a few days.
Thanks for all your help in advance.
Best Regards,
Lisa

.......Take your dog off the drug NOW and get to the vet. If it is the
Rimadyl affecting the liver this is a serious situation.

I rescued a 5 yr old beagle, 5 mths later a disc in his back ruptured & he
was a quadraplegic. We got him a wheelchair (he's in no pain or I wouldn't
have done this) but he prefers to 'drag around'. This little guy goes so
fast his ears flap! Sure, it's a problem with waste, but he's a happy guy.
And lucky! He doesn't like the wheelchair because it gets stuck on
furniture. rocks & holes outside, etc. He prefers to go naked. I have to
keep his feet wrapped with VetWrap when he's outside, tho, or they get drug
bloody.

By the way, 6 months ago, much to all his vets' astonishment because his
back was so bad, his spinal column grew & reattached. He 'runs' in his
sleep, wags his tail, & has regained all feeling in his hindquarters. Yet he
still 'drags' & doesn't attempt to walk; the docs say that's common; he's
forgotten how he walked before. I've tried everything; water (NOT a good
idea with him), I made a harness for his back end with leashes (he just runs
so fast I can't keep up with him & doesn't even attempt to move his back
legs). But when he sleeps & dreams, his back legs are going a mile a minute!

Good luck.

I posted a message here a few days ago about another problem I'm having with
a possible 'hermaphrodite' dog (not the crip) that no one answered. I think
maybe people thought it was a joke but it's not.

We've taken him off the Rimadyl, tomorrow's vet appt should answer
if his liver panel results allow another less toxic drug. Otherwise a wheel
chair
or in the end.....husky heaven is waiting for a beautiful Red Sib Husky.
Thank you all. God Bless.
Man, this hurts.
