Our dog Emerson has a hematoma at the base of his left ear (confirmed
by a trip to the vet). We've been treating the infection in his ear
with medication, but over the past week the area of the hematoma has
gotten larger.
We love Emerson, but the budget is tight right now and the surgery is
not an option. We had a lyme disease scare with him in the spring, so
we've paid a lot of money in the past few months to the vet. (Luckily,
he's doing great now! Bloodwork came back negative last month.)
Is there something we can do, short of putting a cone around his neck,
to keep him from scratching at his ear while we treat the root of the
problem? Any suggestions on the hematoma?
Thanks,
- kl
