I've never been to this group before, however I'm assuming the "Rescue"
in the addy.... Means I could be at the right place.
I Hope!
Here's the situation:
I have this dog, that has taken up with me. At first I didn't know who
it belonged to, or if it was a stray.
It's a fairly young puppy... very cute & loveable.
At first, I noticed, it was practically starved. So I began feeding
it..... being, I thought it was the right thing to do.
After a week.... of it hanging around, I noticed a neighbor kicking it
around.
This made me furious!
I got the puppy, and tied it up. I then started asking around, as to
who it belonged to.
Finally, I ran up on two young kids, who claimed it.
I told them, it was tied up, and why. They came and got it.
The next day.... It came back.
Rope was chewed. Again, starving.
It's been at my house this time, for over a week.
What really upsets me, is that these two kids, walk right by it, and
never even acknowledge it.
Like they don't even miss it. Just the other day... it followed them up
the road, the young girl, turned around, glanced at it..... and never
knelt down, or spoke. Just kept walking like there was nothing there.
They've seen me feeding it.... and it's like they don't care.
They don't call for it.... or even act like they miss it or know it..
I spoke to their family member.... he said, they never feed it... and
care nothing about it.
He told me, to go ahead and keep the dog. Tie it up.... get it's shots,
etc. and not to worry about it.
I explained to him, I didn't want to invest money into the dog, if they
were gonna want it back.
He told me, not to worry about it. It's mine.
I hate to just take it, but it's obvious these people don't care.
And I cannot stand the thought of them knowing it's being kicked around,
and letting it loose, anyway.
I'd much rather take it, and take care of it, rather than see it, be
beat, or starved..
ANY ADVICE!?
Can I take legal ownership of it?
Would their neglect be considered as Animal Cruelty? ~ To where legally,
I can do something to save this puppy? before it's too late?
I'm puzzled as to what I should do.

Perhaps the children know that the dog is better off with you. Sometimes we
don't give little ones enough credit.
