Post subject: Help identifying spider, possibly pisauridae sp.
Archived from groups: alt>pets>arachnids, others (more info?)

This morning I caught a small female (Body ~1/4 inch; legspan +1/2 inch) spider
after turning over a rock here in Atlanta, GA. She did not appear to have any
web. It was raining at the time. The abdomen is black and appears velvety; the
brown cephalothorax is tall and narrow (cross-section is something like a
parabola), with a sharp cuttoff at the front. I can't see the eyes very well,
but she appears to have two eyes high on its head facing forward, and two more
smaller slightly to the sides of these. She may have either two, four below this
set. I can only see two spinnerets, and the area immediately around them appears
flat. Her first legs are longer than the others.
I think she's either Lycosidae, Pisauridae, or Gnaphosidae (Wolf, Nursery web,
or Ground spider). The eyes could match either L. or P., and I can't find any
information on the arrangement in G. Also, is the shape of the head significant?
I took some pictures, but they were too blurry to be of any use.
Help? Suggestions?
