My vet has just told me that he cannot put Beau on the Baytril/Doxy combi
because he does not hold an exotic certificate and regulations will not
allow him to treat any rats with it.Has anyone in the U.K been able to treat
their rats with doxy and where do they live? Can you get it on the internet
and would it go through customs?Your help would be appreciated as we have
lost three rats this year and could not bear to lose another....

Hi Susan
The only doxy I can get is in tablet form. Obviously this is not a good
idea for rats but you could crush the tablets down into powder form. The
vet said he can supply me so obviously I can post you the tablets avoiding
the tablets as I'm in Huddersfield, UK.
If you are interested tell me to email you.

Hope this helps.

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

I read your post with interest as I also live in Huddersfield and would be
interested in knowing who your vets are and if you're happy with them. I
don't have a vet for Phoebe and Amy yet you see.

Hi Parsnip
Certainly. I used to goto Donaldsons and Cooks (now Donaldson and Partners)
in Aspley. As I stated earlier there performance with rat care and rat
owners is very much to be avoided. I now goto there ex/previous
partner/owner who has started up by himself (details below) many years ago
now. Charles Cook VS is by far (in my opinion and experience) the one of
choice in Huddersfield.
He talks, holds and cares for rats in a good manner and not in a clinical
and unclean/vermin manner. He also will talk to you about rats - the ins
and outs of your rat problem and or medication. I've never found Charles
Cook anything but caring from the very first visit. Just a shame I didn't
see him when he was a partner/owner of the other vets (Donaldsons) when I
had to go and sadly have my rattie put to sleep. There (Donaldsons)
attitude and behaviour was deplorable.

Sorry to go on but even after all these years Donaldson's vets and there
attitude towards me and my rat is still very close to my heart and so is
the hurt and pain. You don't just shove a rat in your overall pocket head
first when it's having to be put down because that is what happened. Even
the assistants are badly trained/caring because you can tell. That vet
(Donaldsons - Maple Sreet, Aspley) is a hell hole for ratties and there
owners.

I thank God everytime I goto Charles Cooks for being here for ratties and
there owners :) lol

Thank you Joanne. To be honest I vowed never to return to Donaldson's again
after that final insult.

When rattie was with us I used to use the vet. On every accasion I had to
tell the assistants to be gentle. They were very heavy handed and
incompassionate, even with our dogs and cats. They simply have no idea on
small animal care and or compassion.

My opinion of them is from numerous visits with numerous animals over the
years. I was unhappy with them from the start but sadly went there out of
convenience.
Luckily ((Cooks) the compassionate ex-partner) started up only 2 mins away
from Donaldsons.

I would've walked a hundred miles plus to get a good vet after that final
incident. I could/would not ever put another animal through there 'care'
again.

Anthony.
