Something got introduced to the tank that appears to causing troubles. I
suspect the culprit is my daughter's attempt to pet the fish. (look, she's
only 4)

Now they are covered in a fine mist of ?????.....

I did a 20% change, with about two tablespoons of aquarium salts and changed
the charcoal filter and cleaned the pump.

I don't play with the chemistry, just rely on 2 10% changes a week with
bottled water ( my well water is very hard and mineral laden) and light
feeding to keep the bad stuff at bay.

They seem ok just fuzzy.
Am I doing the right things?

Cheryl

When you say a fine mist do you mean lots of little tiny white spots, or
cotton woolly sort of white clumps?

More like bubbles and a couple of fine filaments - they have improved a lot
since I spotted the troubles and did the water change.

I'm glad the fish is looking a bit better. Keep an eye out for these fine
filaments as they could be indicative of gill or body parasites.

But where would parasites come from? - they are the only two and have been
here for 4+ years
