Hello All,
I'd like to ask for some more help on determining differences in appearance
between Timneh greys and the nominate African grey. As you may know,
BirdLife are currently trying to determine if these two birds are in fact
seperate species rather than subspecies. They are making hundreds of
measurements of individual birds, mainly from museum specimens. However,
the data on eye colour are not available with such specimens.
If you keep *both* Timneh and African greys, I'd like to ask for your help.
Could you look very closely at the eye colour of the birds and let me know
if you perceive any difference in colour between the two types of birds.
When doing this, it is vital that all birds you examine are *more than two
years old* and the birds must be viewed in the same, bright natural daylight
conditions, not under artificial light of any kind. The birds must also be
in good general health and not under any medication.
It is important to let me know whichever way your observations go; whether
you do or do *not* percieve any difference in eye colour.
If the list-owner is happy for this; I would ask that this request be passed
on freely to other lists on this occassion.
