When Biskit when in for his latest tooth trim the vet said his head tilted
"slightly" to the left. For that I was given some Baytril®. I have been
trying to read about this subject on the internet and it seems to be
related to "wry neck" and most of the articles are not favorable about a
successful recovery. That doesn't sound very good. What can I expect to
happen next to my little bunny? Is this the beginning of something a lot
worse?

Did the vet say what may be causing the head tilt -- bacteria, E. cuniculi,
neural injury from something else? Since he gave Baytril, I suppose he/she
suspected bacterial infection.

Head tilt often arrests and even improves with treatment. It is one of the
things you have to take a day at a time. Rabbits live quite well with head
tilt as long as the disease process is stopped. I hope that you are able to
find out what the pathogen is and stop its progression. High-dose Baytril
is a good start if it is bacterial.

Healing vibes coming Biskit's way,

Well about two months ago his left eye was "weepy" and the vet thought it
might be conjunctivitis so he was receiving eye drops to cure that. The
weepy eye went away but seemed to return again about two weeks ago. Last
Tuesday the vet told me about his head tilt. I am assuming this is
noticeable like when looking straight on at him? His little head does seem
slightly tilted but he's too animated for me to really tell. It wouldn't be
from any type of injury; I am thinking she suspects a bacterial infection
especially in conjunction with the eye problem. I am devotedly giving him
Baytril® as instructed. If it persists, the vet told me he could be tested
for an infection, which I will do. He's a mile stone Bunny now at 10˝
years...

Testing for bacteria in the ear can be difficult, since one can't reach it
easily to take a culture. Sometimes an x-ray can be useful. The only
problem with the interpretation is that many rabbits have subclinical middle
ear infections, so it can be hard to say what pus in the middle ear means.
I hope that the Baytril works. Ciprofloxacin is also good for ear
infections, but it is so expensive. It is chemically similar to Baytril, so
if the Baytril works, the Baytril is definitely preferable.

Hope you are able to keep this thing at bay.

Hi there,

Has the vet also checked the back molars? Sometimes a tooth/root
infection can cause a weepy eye. I suppose that could spread in the ear
canal area too.

Good luck with Biskit. How great that he's over 10!
