Smoky, one of my sister's mice is not very well and I fear that if we
don't take the right course of action, she may not recover. It's very hot
here in London today and when Smoky got a tea tree "shower," she rolled
about furiously, trying to dry herself. She is now lying down, breathing
quickly, being fed sugar water from Chloe's finger. I think she may have
a kind of heat-stroke. I've wrapped some tea-towels round an ice-block
and she's lying on that. She seems to be making progress, because her
voice is growing louder.

Does anyone have any advice, please?

Liam

Smoky has gone. My friend reckons that the cut straw, specially for
rodents, had mites in it from when the straw was packed and wild must
nested in it. So if you use straw for your mice I would not use it. I am
going to start using something like the cut up jay cloth for Midnight and
when I clean the cage now, I will use tea tree in a spray bottle to spray
the cage. My friend was saying it would have maybe best if we had sprayed
the tea tree rather then put droplets because the droplets were stressing
her more.

I'm so sorry about Smoky, Liam... I know you did everything you could.

Thanks for the sympathy. Chloe's been quite upset. She doesn't want to
get a new mouse too soon - it might seem a bit disrespectful. On the
other hand, little Midnight will want a playmate.

Looking back on Smoky's last few weeks, it could have been that her mites
were bothering her so much that she couldn't sleep and the tea-tree shower
on Monday was the last straw - took away all her energy, so she just
collapsed. What a horrible way to die. Ever since her Mum (Moonlight,
who she got on extremely well with) died, it seems she had a rough time of
it. Never mind - at least she'll enjoy herself in Mousie heaven!

Now she'll be together with her mum again, too.

Good luck in finding a new friend for Midnight eventually.
