Grace,
MaryL is right - get the babies back out there asap and watch for the
parents. If the parents have given up looking, the babies must have
nourishment, or they will quickly reach a critical point of no return.
Mealworms (not real worms) will give them nourishment and moisture, and
can be purchased at most pet stores. If necessary, you will have to
force feed (pry open their beaks), and feed small pieces so as not to
choke them. Don't try to give them water yet - it will likely strangle
them as very young babies get their moisture from their food. Your
chances of success are not good, and even if they survive, they will
recognize you as their parents, and will lack the natural fear of humans
that they need to survive in the wild. Remember, it's against state and
federal law to raise native birds without a license, so while building
up their strength with mealworms, get on the phone and find a licensed
rehabilitator. If none can be found in the phone book, call the nearest
state wildlife agency or a nearby university and ask if they have an
ornithologist that can help. Good luck.
