Archived from groups: rec>pets>cats>rescue (more info?)

Hi all. Havent been on here in quite a while.
In six months my lease is up on my apartment and my roommate is moving
elsewhere. I cannot afford an apartment by myself, and am going to have to
move in with someone else. The problem is, their son is highly allergic to
cats and has asthma on top of it. I currently have four cats, and am pretty
sure I have found homes for two of them. This is ripping me up, as I have
tried every solution I know to keep my babies. The two I would need homes
for-Angelo is an awesome cat. He is a tuxedo, not sure how old he is - I
took him in 5 years ago. He gets along with dogs and other cats. He like to
greet you at the door when you come home to give head butts. He is not a big
cuddler, likes his space mostly. His only drawback is he is terrified of
kids.Shadow is my tiny little black darling and I am dying that I will have
to part with her. I got her 5 years ago with Angelo, somebody had abandoned
them in an apt. in my building. She is THE most sweetest, cuddly, lovey cat
I have ever seen. But she is very skittinsh and a one person cat. It took
her around a year to be by me and not flinch if I just sneezed. She sleeps
on my pillow at night, and loves to just hang out anywhere near me. But it
took a *long* time to get that way. She is also *very* terrified of kids.

I live in a suburb of Chicago. If anyone has any ideas from me I would
greatly appreciate it. I cant even believe that I am in this position to
have to find my babies a new home.......I dont know that I can bear to do
this, but Im not having any luck finding a different roommate and cannot
affor $1200 a month rent on my own.......

Shells V. ------> having to go take a break at work right now so I can go
cry by myself in my car. *sigh*

Why don't you move somewhere where you can bring the cats? It burns me up
that some people say how much they love their cats but yet are willing to
move somewhere where they aren't allowed or for various other reasons. If
you love your cats as much as you claim you'd move somewhere where you can
take them all with you. You could rent a house.

I agree wholeheartedly with you as far as if it *was* an option, I would
NEVER let my babies go. Trust me, I have moved several times out of or into
certain situations solely because it would allow me to keep my cats. It just
is not an option this time - I cannot afford to rent a house on my own-dont
know where you are from, but in the suburbs of Chicago here, house rental
are minimally $1200. I cannot afford to rent an apartment at this point on
my own - I have been looking for a roommate, and the only one I can find has
a son that has bad asthma and is allergic to cats. I have been sick to death
over this, it is the very last thing I want to do, believe me. I am not
"willing" to move somewhere where the cats arent allowed, its my only option
right now.

What makes it not an option this time? There are plenty of places I am sure
you can move to where you can take your cats with you. You just choose not
to do it. Everyone has a choice. BTW, I saw a few rentals in the Chicago
area on forrent.com that was cheaper than $1200. I think you need to look
for another roomate (if these people are thinking of moving in with you then
I would tell them the cats stay). There are a lot of options here. Besides,
if you pass those cats on to someone else, how do you know they will be well
cared for? You need to re-consider this because it is not the fault of the
cats because you insist on picking a person who's son has asthma. Try harder
to find accomidations that will allow you to take the cats with you.

Since you had your cats for a while, I presume you either had them before you
moved into this apartment or were not aware you had to eventually vacate at a
specified time. You didn't mention if you looked at all for a roommate who
likes cats. There are no other options in your locale expect this person who
has a son who is allergic to cats?
