Each day when we go for our walk, we increase our distance. Over the
week-end we had our first up close and personal encounter with the farmers
dog. Seems like a very friendly dog, no barking or anything. Just a bit of
curiosity on both sides. My two curious about farmers dog and vice versa.
So today we got all the way up the road to where the farmer has his guineas.
The farmers fence is probably four or five feet off the side of the gravel
road, so that's how close the guineas got to Gracie and Merlin. They were
squalking and squalking, very loudly. The farmer has quite a flock of 'em
too. Well Gracie and Merlin didn't quite know what to make of 'em. Then
one of 'em flew up and perched on top of the farmers fence. the expressions
on the dogs faces were priceless. Nearly jaw-dropping. I'd swear they
wanted to exclaim "that's the biggest damn bird I've EVER seen!"
So far we haven't go a really up-close look at the horses though. Oh I can
see them fine, but they are about 30 or 40 feet away from the road. The
farmer has been working on building a new pond for a number of months now
though. It looks to be at least 10 or 15 acres, could be bigger, I'm just
not a very good judge of something like that. They'd been clearing land and
digging it for months now. They just started dropping off bales of hay in
that enclosure this week, so I'm guessing he will open it to the horses
soon. So we should be able to get much better views then, because it
meanders all around the fenced area closest to the road we walk along.
The guineas look just like the first one at this link. All sort of a
charcoal gray in color, and quite large.

My dogs are slowing turning from city dogs to country dogs.
