Post subject: Good news - Mohrchen got rid of his plastic-collar and is feeling well
Archived from groups: rec>pets>cats>anecdotes (more info?)

Now this were 10 days in pre-hell. And my Mohrchen took them so brave.
Because of his eye-surgery they cut the whiskers on the left side and
he had to wear this collar so he was really challenged in his
navigation.
After I made it very clear to him that he just HAS to go through this
ordeal
he took the handicap with calmness and gave in to it. Spent most time
on the sofa.

I barred the cat-flap in the main-door and all cats had to sit in
front of the
study-room window if they wanted out to show me that I should open the
window.
So it went - opening the window - letting Linus in. Closing the
window.
Opening the window 4 minutes later - letting Luna out. Closing the
window.
3 minutes later - open the window Julius peering in, not able to
decide what he wants.
Me waiting, Julius still in the process of deciding, half in, half
out,
in the meantime Mohrchen approaching with the slight hope of an
escape.
Me closing the window letting Julius outside. And so on all day long.
I am really good at service.

Then - I spoiled Mohrchen completely over the last 10 days.
I believe it's with cats like it is with me - if life is a mess there
at least
should be really nice food. So I hand-feeded him into his collar all
the
nice things he loves to eat - ground meat, liver sausage, butter-fish
(which is
the only fish without fishbones the fish monger told me), chicken-
hearts
(one can buy them here in 1kg packages).
The other cats where not amused as they only got a fraction of the
stuff.

And then the nights - as nobody could go outside I put 5 litter-boxes
in
various rooms so that everybody could find a comfy place if needed.
Well, intended was that only Mohrchen uses a litter-box and all the
others
should have done their things during the time they were outside. But
no,
autumn has already arrived here, the nights are cold, about 0 degree
Celsius
and so my loved-ones decided to take the easy way. And two of them are
specialists
in "avoiding the target", so they hang their little butt halfways into
the litter box
and halfways out. I was cleaning stuff all the 10 days.

Every night, when I entered the sofa to watch TV, Mohrchen navigated
himself
onto the blanket, laying on my stomach the whole evening and I gave
him a
good scritching around the neck, where he couldn`t scratch himself.
Imagine a cat which is not able to clean and scritch herself. Poor
guy.
Body care is so essential for a cats well-being.

Monday afternoon the vet removed the thread on Mohrchens wound and it
all looks very good. When we were home again he snuggeled up to me
rubbing his head again and again against my hands and arms, showing me
how thankful he was to be free again.
And he is usually not one to show off emotions. I am so happy.

Today I let him out for the first time.
He is a cool and clever cat, so I will see him again.
I think he has to make sure that he is still able to go his old ways,
I saw him climbing cautiously a garden-fence after first checking
(with his one eye) how this task would be manageable for him. Good
guy. Very careful.
Now I keep my thumbs pressed that Mohrchen will be home soon,
healthy and happy.

Thank you all very much for sending purrs - they helped again.

Bettina

You are right - Mohrchen just entered throgh the window, demanding
some food.<g>
It is very chilly outside and he took only a 4- hours trip.
I am so glad he is ok.

You know - I used to see him wandering in the middle of the road. He
owns the village.
But I think he feels what he can do and what he better should avoid to
do.

I slowly begin to relax. All is well.

I am very grateful that winter is approaching. The cats will be mostly
at home.
And I love really bad autumn- and winterweather if it is outside and I
can see
it from inside with a nice cup of chocolate, tea or spiced wine.
The tiled ovens with which I heat my old house are running and it is
unbelievable warm in my study.<g>
Outside cold wind is blowing.

Good news about Mohrchen, Bettina. I hope he decides
to stay indoors most of the time so you don't have to
worry too much. God bless.

Owning the village isn't very ambitious, I would have thought he claimed the
whole of Germany. ;o)
