I'm not experienced with goldendoodles, but I've heard that poodles
and Maltese do not shed.
Have you looked at the pet listings in craigslist? You can get
goldendoodles off there for free, or out of your local paper for about
$300 each, or more. Either way, you can contact someone who either
breeds goldendoodles (shame on THEM!!!) or someone who owns one and is
trying to get rid of it, and can find out from them the positives and
negatives of goldendoodle ownership.
Personally, I don't understand how people will pay $300 for a mixed-
breed puppy like a goldendoodle or a puggle, when at one's local
animal shelter, one can acquire a mixed-breed puppy (maybe even a
goldendoodle) for $100 or less, that has its shots, been vet-checked
and has a spay/neuter certificate. The "designer dog" breeders are
just adding to the multitudes of unwanted mixed-breed puppies of
uncertain temperament and ability to be trained who are abandoned,
given away or taken to dog pounds every year. Purebreds often have
inherited problems, but most purebred dog breeds (except the toy dogs)
have been bred for a specific task, and MOST of the dogs of any given
breed share the talent, build, size, intelligence and temperament bred
into that breed over many generations. (Of course, there are
exceptions.) And some breeds are closer to hypoallergenic than others.
