About a year or more ago I saw a TV documentary featuring typically over
enthusiastic guys on an island looking for venomous snakes.

All I remember is that they were on a very small uninhabited island that is
the habitat for a gold, poisonous snake. Supposed to be very poisonous and
also heavily infests the island (but these shows are subject to hype). They
only found about three of them over a 24-hour period, even though they
claimed that there was supposed to be about one snake for every square meter
of the island.

Does anybody know what kind of snake this might be?

Is it possibly the Australian Tiger Snake? Not nearly as vicious as
Hollywood would like us to believe. They are a very attractive snake,
nicely marked. Try a Google search with snake+poisonous+island and see
what comes up.

It was a Golden lancehead (Bothrops insularis) i believe and the island
was Queimada Grande. Their population is really very big on that island
because they have lot's of pray there (frogs).

Unlikely as the Tiger snake which inhabits islands such as Chapel Island,
Revesby Island and Kangaroo Island is almost black in an adaptation to the

True of 100% of Hollywood and 90% of documentaries.
