In addition to subject I would like to get some safe Peat Moss & Potting
Compost, any ideas? All the stuff I have seen has fertilisers in it.

Thanks in advance :)

A gerbillarium is usually just an aquarium filled with moss peat and
straw.
Buying the tank is simple, as you can buy a fairly cheap bare tank
(make sure it's big enough so they can run around a bit) and then make
a mesh lid using the wire mesh they have at garden centres (usually
near the chicken wire).
You can get the moss peat at the same time. I use Irish moss peat, the
stuff that comes in bags with a shamrock logo on it. It's just basic
moss peat with nothing added.
The straw comes from the pet shop.

Justy fill the tank with a 1 inch layer of peat, then a thin layer of
straw, then another inch of peat, then another thin layer of straw.
Keep repeating until the tank is half to two-thirds full. You need to
make sure the peat isn't high enough so that the gerbils can't push
the mesh lid off. Also, remember that once they start digging tunnels,
the level of the peat will rise as they bring it to the surface.

That's it really. just add a food bowl and a water bottle (oh, and
some Gerbils) and watch them have fun!

Putting a cardboard box in the tank gives them somewhere to hide while
they start tunnelling. Usually when they've had enough, they undermine
the box and bury it!

Mark.

Ah, I see. Why do people give different names to the same objects, gives me
a headache trying to work it out lol! I have a fairly big unit to put an
aquarium on, and would like to make some wooden shelves to go in and for
them to just chew it up and then having to make another :)

I've been looking at tanks and they vary a lot in terms of money, but I know
of this place where you can provide them with measurements and they will
make a tank :)

My gerbils at the moment try and dig tunnels in their carefresh & wood
shavings mix however are rather unsuccessful, so I wanted to give them
somewhere where they could tunnel and have fun, one idea I had was to
connect some tubing from the aquarium to their current cage, so they
effectively just have this vast space just for burrowing :)

But first, I need to persuade my partner that we *need* one! LOL
