Please charge at least $20 for your rabbit. With rabbits especially,
people pick up the "free to good home" animals for other purposes.
Unfortunately, she could end up as dinner somewhere. Charging enough
weeds out those people and the ones who aren't serious.

I hope you can work something out to keep her. Is she spayed?

we found Trixie in the newspaper.... this girl advertised her as "free"
and indicated that Trix must go to a good home. when we met with her,
she indicated that Trix was being used by her dad in bunny fights in
the basement and she couldn't bear it. Trix was missing part of her
ear. the girl and her mom asked if they could keep in contact and we
said it was ok... and they did. they wanted to make sure that Trix went
to a good home. it's rare that some kids make sure that their bunnies
go to good homes... this kid did. she stayed in contact for about 2
years and then they ended up losing contact.... I don't know if it was
that they lost interest or what.... but soon the visits stopped, the
calls stopped and Trixie didn't seem to mind. She knew she was treated
like royalty. Her previous owners knew she was in very good hands.

I used to volunteer at the humane society, and that was something we always
stressed even with dogs, we had a problem in Pittsburgh, pa with people
using dogs they found in papers for free, for fighting, so when I see
someone with an ad in my local paper for a free animal, I will call and tell
them, I have had people say thanks, I did not think of that, or hang up on
me, which I guess I understand but I always tell them at least put a price
on the animal and then once someone calls if you would like to give it to
them once you feel comfortable with it, that's fine but if they just want it
for fighting or food for another animal they wont call if you are charging
them something, because they know they can find them for free somewhere.

My local paper is full of bunnies for free, its sad, people buy them at the
pet stores at Easter or holidays and then weeks later they take them to the
shelter, and the bad thing is most have not been taken care of right and
left in cages, and have to be worked with so they can be adopted, or they
get put down and its called humane.
