My parents (who live in Tarpon Springs, FL-just north of Clearwater) found 2
dogs that they were told were purebred:
1) Black long hair Pomeranian, no collar, about 6 years old
2) Younger brown/tan Boxer-tail not clipped; female not neutered;
collar.

Both dogs very friendly; spent the night in my parents' home; no problem
with their dog. Dogs must have been together as the little guy slept on top
of the Boxer all night. Both dogs well cared for; groomed; well fed. Dogs
appeared at their apt door after my father gave them water & food. He had
spotted them in the woods behind their complex; obviously very thirsty &
hungry.

Unfortunately, they ended up in Pinellas Animal Control & so far no one has
claimed them. I am posting in the event anyone might know owner of these
two GREAT dogs.

Please let me know if you have any leads.

You might want to email Florida Boxer Rescue to let them know the dog is in
the shelter. www.flbr.org

Post subject: starved dog [Login to view extended thread Info.]
Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

We got a dog from the rescue on Saturday that had been tied up all
winter with not very much to eat. Her name is MS Magoo and has the frame
of a Lab but only weighs 20 pounds!! She has been eating three times a
day but walks around in circles in the yard and the house wandering from
room to room with seemingly no purpose. She is slow to react to much of
anything. Her posture is with head held low to the ground like a hunting
dog on a trail but she is like that all the time. We were wondering if
the severe starvation could have scrambled her brain. Is there a point
of no return in a starving animal? The rescue that had her had been
feeding her for 5 weeks . Should she have gained a lot of weight in that
time ? We will continue to care for her no matter what, it just seems
odd that she does not react to the other dogs or the cats or even when
we call her or talk to her.

Poor sweet girl. Who knows the depth of the abuse she suffered (other than no
food). Since you just got her Saturday I would assume she is gaining weight and
has been checked out by a vet. She may be more confused by the rehoming
combined with her sad history. Sounds like you have a dog whose needs will be
many, at least emotionally and for awhile. She probably doesn't know what to
think. BTW, thanks for taking her!

It could be that she also has a pancreatic problem or something
else that would prevent her from gaining weight...even when
she has plenty of food to eat. Get her checked out by a vet.
