I think everyone has seen or read about floating fish - I've never had
one. Now however, I have a floating oranda.

I feed them a tiny amount twice a day and other fish are OK.

The oranda in question generally eats sinking flakes. He floats to
the top, wiggles his way to the bottom and floats up quite quickly.
I've only noticed this today as I noticed him lying on his side on the
top of the tank.

Recently I have been introducing a log - bogwood and I have been
soaking it for about two months - it has produced more of the yellowy
colour (tanin) in the water.

I'm ceasing feeding them for a week, and I'm going to try sinking
pellets. His scales are in good condition, though he is a little
podgy.

What should I do? I feel guilty leaving him - he is a little
distressed but fins and tail look magnificent. Does he have a chance?

One of mine started floating a bit a few days after I got him home form my
lfs. I've been feeding him shelled chopped peas for supper everynight and
since then he hasn't floated once. Might be worth a try!
