If the skin problem is caused by a food allergy, it's important to
identify and eliminate it. By mixing "flavors", I assume you are feeding
different protein sources (i.e., beef, chicken, etc.). If you could be more
specific as to the exact food, it might be helpful. You can read all of the
link below, and Google "dog food allergies" for more info.

"In order of the most common offenders in dogs are beef, dairy products,
chicken, wheat, chicken eggs, corn, and soy.... There was nothing special
about lamb and rice diets except those two ingredients were normally not
present in pet foods."
My dog had very itchy skin when I adopted her at 4 months, and I switched
to Nutro Lamb and Rice. I assumed a corn allergy, although it might have
been beef or chicken. She is now 6 years old and still gets comments on her
coat. I also have given her fish oil caps every day and a couple of tins of
sardines a week. She also gets a scoop of active yogurt occasionally to
combat yeast infections, manifested as itchy feet (excessive licking) or ear
infections, which she's never had.
No canned food, and only lamb and rice biscuits. The only human food she
gets is the occasional potato and egg breakfast taco.......
Another thing is to introduce a small amount of local honey or bee
pollen, as this might help with inhalant allergens.
