Post subject: Escaped...
Archived from groups: alt>pets>rodents (more info?)

This is my first visit to the group, but doing so on behalf of someone else.
A friend of mine accidentally left her hamster cage door open overnight and
the hamster escaped. She's understandably distraught, and I spent several
hours over at her house helping her search, but to no avail. Is there any
advice anyone here is able to give that might aid in finding him?
Particularly advice with regard to their ability to climb carpeted stairs
and squeeze through narrow gaps? There is a step down to the kitchen which
is approximately 4" - might he be tempted to jump that? He certainly
wouldn't be able to get back up as the step "wall" is glossy smooth.

In one end of her ground floor is an electric meter and there is a small gap
where the cables go beneath the floor. I am concerned that he may be down
there. I listened very carefully tonight when I was over there, but didn't
hear anything, perhaps he was asleep. We have left some food out to see if
he can be tempted - it is arranged in such a way that if moved it will be
noticed.

Any replies to this post would be appreciated.

Marcus

get a bucket, a ramp and lay a trail of food down, with food in the bucket..

the thing, will get hugnry, eat the food up the ramp, fall in to eat more,
and get trapped inside of it as its got smooth sides..

im sure it can climb carpet, they have claws.

good luck..

make sure to pad the bottom of the bucket so it doens't get hurt falling
in, too....
