Archived from groups: rec>pets>dogs>health (more info?)

Hello,
Sadly our 10 year old Keeshond has just been diagnosed with emphysema
and is on 20mg of Prednisone per day as well as antibiotics.
Vet says nothing else can be done, Prednisone is the only medication
to offer relief for emphysema but I have been reading about drugs for
humans that open up the air passages in the lungs, a class of drugs
known as B2-agonists (in pill and puffer form), used in conjunction
with steroid medication like Prednisone.
Our vet hasn't offered this treatment.
Is this an option for dogs too?
Any suggestions or advice on this subject would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank you, Ray.

Ray,

There are asthma medications that are used on animals that open up the air
ways to help with breathing. I'm not sure if something like this would help
or not. I would get a 2nd opinion from another vet and see if other
treatment options are available.
